EMBL is an international research organisation with its main laboratory in Heidelberg, and four outstations in Hinxton, Grenoble, Hamburg and Monterotondo (near Rome).

IMEC is an independent research center in nanoelectronics and nanotechnology, is headquartered in Leuven (Belgium), has a sister company in the Netherlands (IMEC-NL), offices in the US, China and Taiwan, and representatives in Japan.

INSPIRE is a Consortium of all Irish third level institutions: CRANN, Trinity Collage Dublin - MSSI, University of Limerick - Tyndall National Institute, University College Cork - FOCAS Institute, Dublin Institute of Technology - NCPST and RINCE, Dublin City University - LightHOUSE, National University of Ireland, Galway - Cork Institute of Technology - CNBI, University College, Dublin. The KNMF is on Campus Forschungszentrum (Germany). The structurising and characterisation technologies are coordinated in three laboratories: (1) KNMF-Lab for Micro and Nanostructuring, (2) KNMF-Lab for Microscopy and Spectroscopy, (3) KNMF-Lab for Synchrotron Characterisation.

Myfab is a cooperative network of three laboratories: (1) Ångström Microstructure Laboratory, Uppsala University, Uppsala - (2) Nanofabrication Laboratory, Chalmers University, Göteborg - (3) Electrum Laboratory, KTH, The Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm.

European LIght Sources Activities

The ELISA project is an Integrated Infrastructure Initiative (I3) supported by the European Community under the FP7 Programme, bringing together 17 research infrastructures around Europe. This corresponds to the world largest network of synchrotrons and FELs facilities, acting as a consortium.

The European Portal on Research Infrastructures Database provides information on a large number of Research Infrastructures of pan European interest in all fields of science. It covers facilities, resources and related services that are used by the scientific community to conduct top-level research in their respective fields.

The Nano Archive is part of the ICPCNanoNet project, funded by the EU under FP7 and aims to provide wider access to published nanoscience research and opportunities for collaboration between scientists in the EU and International Cooperation Partner Countries. This electronic archive of nanoscience publications has a simple interface for the deposit of full-text papers and incorporates facilities for retrieval by browsing or searching. It is freely accessible to researchers around the globe, making research papers and other scholarly publications widely available.

The goal of this website is to make visible existing expertise and research infrastructures in nanoscience and technology on a European level.

The main objective of the e-Infrastructure initiative is to support the creation of a political, technological and administrative framework for an easy and cost-effective shared use of distributed electronic resources across Europe. Particular attention is directed towards grid computing, storage, and networking.

Funded under the European Commission FP7, Co-Nanomet is a programme of activities addressing the need within Europe to develop the required measurement frame to successfully support the development and economic exploitation of nanotechnology.

EIROforum is a collaboration between seven European intergovernmental scientific research organisations that are responsible for infrastructures and laboratories: CERN, EFDA-JET, EMBL, ESA, ESO, ESRF and ILL.

EMRP is a metrology-focused European programme of coordinated R&D that facilitates closer integration of national research programmes. The EMRP will ensure collaboration between National Measurement Institutes, reducing duplication and increasing impact. The overall goal of the EMRP is to accelerate innovation and competitiveness in Europe whilst continuing to provide essential support to underpin the quality of our lives.

FramingNano is a 7th Framework Program project funded by the European Commission. 

Its primary mission is to facilitate an international multi-stakeholder dialogue aimed at framing future regulatory actions that will foster the responsible development of nanotechnology.

The Gennesys initiative led by the Max Planck Institute, a huge consortium of institutes, universities, neutron and synchrotron facilities spanning Europe is working to bridge the gap between the research needs and future challenges of the nano-technology community, and matching this with the latest neutron and X-ray techniques.

i3-NET is a Specific Support Action funded by the European Commission through the Research Infrastructures Activity of the 6th Framework Programme.

i3-NET brings together 18 Integrated Infrastructures Initiative and 3 Coordination Actions projects. Between them these encompass hundreds of large European Research Infrastructures, ranging from telescopes to botanical collections, used by thousands of European scientists. Together they form one of the core parts of the European Research Area, with an enormous combined research capability and capacity which is of considerable importance for Europe’s future prosperity.

It brings together partners from the EU, China, India and Russia and aims to provide wider access to published nanoscience research, and opportunities for collaboration between scientists in the EU and International Cooperation Partner Countries (ICPC).

The observatoryNANO project is funded under FP7 for four years from April 1st 2008 and includes 16 partners from 10 European States. Its primary aim is to support European decision-makers with information and analysis on developments in nanoscience and nanotechnology (N&N).

The consortium consists of three leading European research centers in micro- and nanoelectronics (IMEC as project leader, CEA-LETI and Fraunhofer VµE), four industrial partners who are main actors in the field (STMicroelectronics, Infineon, NXP and ASM-L) and the Flemish Government.
